| Rick Gratia - Co/Owner and Managing Partner |
Rick Gratia brings a lifetime’s experience in the restaurant business to Muriel’s Jackson Square. A native son of the Crescent City, Rick has fine dining coursing through his veins and a thorough knowledge of the eating and drinking habits of New Orleans’ own celebrated gourmands. On the importance of food in his life Rick says, “I live to eat, not the other way around.” Rick, literally, grew up in a restaurant. His family owned Fontana’s Seafood Restaurant, a much beloved and very successful New Orleans dining establishment. “My life was a continuum of celebrations. Everyday occurrences were reason enough for fine food and great wine. That is why I am so passionate about what I do!”
In the early stages of his career, Rick worked his way through the kitchens and dining rooms of New Orleans. He formalized his education at the University of New Orleans where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration. Rick then went on to assume lead management positions in some of New Orleans finest restaurants, including Mr. B’s Bistro, Commander’s Palace, Palace Café, Bacco and Red Fish Grill.
Rick joined Muriel’s Jackson Square developer Doug Ahlers, in 2001, as managing partner, bringing with him his rich and colorful personal history, a seasoned team of restaurant professionals, his undying love for New Orleans and his absolute commitment to culinary excellence.
Rick is currently Chairman of the University of the New Orleans Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Administration Advisory Committee and serves on the Board of Le Petit Theatre. He also served as president of the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience for two years, most notably in 2005 ensuring that the event was held despite the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

| Anthony Palomo - General Manager |
Anthony Palomo was born in New Orleans, but resided in Guatemala with his family during his developmental years. At the age of ten, Anthony returned to New Orleans and completed his education attending De La Salle High School and the University of New Orleans. While attending college, Anthony worked weekends at Commander’s Palace. After only a few short weeks he became a manager at age 22, becoming the youngest employee of the restaurant to be promoted to that position. Anthony went on to complete his bachelor’s degree in engineering and began working full-time in the restaurant business. His enthusiasm, ambition and initiative afforded him the opportunity to become part of the opening team at Commander’s Palace Las Vegas, but he knew New Orleans was home and chose to return and explore other opportunities. Anthony first joined forces with Rick Gratia in 1999 at Hyde Park Grille, where he was Assistant General Manager. In 2001, Anthony and Rick Gratia united with Doug Ahlers in the development of Muriel’s Jackson Square. Implementing his philosophy of remaining cool, calm and collected, Anthony leads the staff of Muriel’s and inspires excellence among our crew.

| Gus Martin - Executive Chef |
Born and raised in New Orleans, Gus Martin spent his childhood watching his mother and grandmother cook authentic Creole and Cajun food in their home kitchens, which instilled in him a passion for local food. He began his culinary career at the young age of 14 in the kitchen of Commander’s Palace under the watchful eye of Chef Paul Prudhomme. After high school Gus completed six years of service in the United States Army, and then came home to return to his first love of cooking. At Mr. B’s Bistro, Gus quickly moved up the ranks to Sous Chef before moving to Commander’s Palace to serve as Executive Sous Chef under the late Chef Jamie Shannon. With new leaderships skills in hand Gus was promoted to Chef de Cuisine at Palace Café, and then named Executive Chef. Gus also held Executive Chef positions at Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse and Ralph Brennan’s Ralph’s on the Park before taking the helm at Muriel’s Jackson Square where he creates nationally recognized contemporary Creole cuisine in New Orleans.
